The Oriental Higher Secondary School at Thanjavur commenced in 1969 by Kanchi Mahaswami & Sri Periyava celebrated its Golden Jubilee year in the presence of His Holiness during camp at Thanjavur on 1/7/2019. Several dignitaries of Thanjavur, with Raja Shri Bhonsle at the helm participated the function.
Speech of His Holiness during the Golden Jubilee function:
The oriental school of Thanjavur commenced with the blessings & directions of our Acharyas is celebrating its 50th Golden Jubilee year. Our Acharyas have blessed several social & spiritual activities for welfare of common people. The people have benefitted by these activities and devotion has also grown.
Education is very important aspect of life. Through education we get the knowledge of discriminating good and bad (Vivekam) and this results happiness (Anandam). We need both types of education, Dharmic for sustaining traditional values and contemporary education to fulfil day to day requirements. Dharmic & Spiritual Education propitiated by our ancestors is very important. Education should be that which results in devotion, service to society, respect for parents & elders, results in good qualities, helps in creating employment opportunites and develops economics & technology. We should remain steadfast in our ancient cultural values and absorb modern technology too. In the area of Documentation we see progress from Inscriptions, Manuscripts, True Copy, Xerox and now we are also seeing development in space technology through launch of satellites like Mangalaayan & Chandraayan. Technology has brought in great advancements in network & communication which has benefitted people.
No doubt Vignanam (Science & Technology) has to grow but Man should live with human qualities, humanity has to develop & people should develop themselves spiritually. When we progress in all walks of lives and earn laurels, we should cultivate Paropakara Gunam- mind to help others. Thanjavur is well known for education & arts. Thanjavur is famous for Bruhadeeshwara Temple built by Raja Raja Chola and today (we were just mentioning to Bhonsle Raja) the Pradosha Puja with Abhishekam to the Nandeeshwar is being observed with devotion and is famous all over Tamilnadu. Generally we know temple streets (Kovil Teru), here there are many number of temples in this street (Kovilgalin thru).
This school blessed by our Acharyas, with a strength of more than 600 children is growing in several aspects like achieving top marks in examination since many years, strength due to patronage from parents as education with culture is being imbibed. We have heard of Thinnai Pallikoodams (Olden days School), this has blossomed as Madattu Pallikoodam (Math’s School). Several service activities started by this school shows the cooperation & involvement of students, teachers & management. Even though the area available is small still the buildings have come up well.
Generally appreciation is extended by teachers to students. Here in this school, when the teachers were felicitated, the spontaneous appreciation and happiness expresses by the students shows that learning is happening with deep interest and involvement. These kind of schools should increase.
We should learn different languages. Scholar is respected everywhere. We should be well skilled, also take care of our families and should do skilful work.
Every one here should take interest and dedicate for the development of this school. In our country education endowed with culture, devotion, service attitude, hardwork, simplicity and a mindset to appreciate good work of everyone should grow. This kind of service activity should progress with the blessings of Bangaru Kamakshi and everyone should benefit.
Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara
