Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam - Sri Madhya Swamimalai Temple, Bhopal

With the benign blessings of Pujyasri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swamijis of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, the foundation for the Madhya Swamimalai Temple was laid in Bhopal in the year 1978. The construction was completed in 6 years and the temple was consecrated with Kumbhabhishekam in the year 1984. Subsequent Kumbabhishekams were performed in the years 1997 and 2008.

Lord Swaminatha or Karthikeya is the presiding deity of the Madhya Swamimalai Temple. In addition to the presiding deity, other shrines located in the temple include

The temple is located on a hillock in the Arera Colony in Bhopal, at a distance of about 10 kms from the Bhopal main bus station. Devotees throng the temple and participate enthusiastically in the various dharmic activities organized in the temple. Sri A.S.Ramanath Sasthri is the Head Priest of the temple.

Activities & special pujas

In addition to the regular pujas being offered to the various shrines in the temple, the following activities are also conducted on a regular basis:

• Tiruppugazh bhajans - a collection of the praises of Lord Karthikeya is sung

• Kirthika & Sashti days - Special abhishekam to Lord Karthikeya at 8.30 am
• Tuesdays - Special abhishekam to Lord Karthikeya at 9.30 am
• Ekadasi days - Special abhishekam to Lord Balaji at 8.30 am
• Poornima days(Full-moon): Special abhishekam to Devi Kamakshi at 6.00 pm
• Fridays - Sahasranama Archana to Devi Kamakshi at 6.00 pm
• Saturdays - Sahasranama Archana to Lord Balaji at 8.30 am, Pujas to Navagrahas from 9 to 10 am
• Dhanur Maas (15 Dec to 13 Jan) - Kalyana Utsavam to Lord Balaji every evening from 6 to 8 pm
• All Anusham, Avittam & Uttrada Nakshatra days - Special Puja and homas
