Message in memory of Sri Swarupananda Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji
12-09-2022 Message by Shri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji of Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Moolamnaya Sarvagna Peetham in memory of Videhabrahmalina Anantashrivibhushita Shri Swarupananada Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamipada As mentioned in the ancient text Shivarahasya, “कल्यादिमे महादेवि सहस्रद्वितयात् परम्”, “O Mahadevi, two thousand years from start of Kaliyuga,” Bhagavan Parameshwara Shambhu, who had been Guru for the ancient sages as prayed for by them, “पूर्वेभिर्ऋषिभिरीड्यः”, agreed to be born as a human being for acting as Guru for the upliftment of the latter day newer generations, though he is unborn, undecaying Atman, “अजोऽपि सन् अव्ययात्मा”. He took on Sanyasahrama, travelled across the length and breadth of this Bharata bhumi and motivated people towards Dharma, Bhakti and Brahman through his teachings for their progressive betterment. Though Bhagavan’s power to bless in the form of Guru is eternal, the duration of the external human form, which is conducive for people to obtain his blessings, is limited by time. Hence for continuing the benefit of the blessings for the people after his time also, and taking the view that constant effort is needed for rebuilding Dharma, which deteriorates specially during Kaliyuga, Dharmacharya Peethas were established by Bhagavatpada Shankaracharya in various parts of Bharat for teaching people in person in the entire country and for encouraging and protecting Dharma, and authoritative lineages of his direct disciples were set up in those Peethas. Respected Shri Swarupananda Saraswathi Swamiji has been protecting and adding lustre to the Peetha in the sacred place of Dwaraka established by Bhagavatpada. Swamiji has worked hard in his long life, ever in the cause of Dharma, starting in his early years from the attainment of independence of Bharat and even after taking up Sanyasa, in the causes of protection of Dharma and public good, like elimination of cow slaughter and religious conversion of people. Swamiji has encouraged the activities of the Peethas in propagation of Dharma and Advaita for which purpose the Peethas were set up by Bhagavatpada. Swamiji came to Kanchipuram and participated lovingly in the festivities of Kanakabhishekam of our Paramaguru Shri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamiji, 68th Peethadhipati of Kamakoti Peetham, organized at his entry into 100th year. Further Swamiji has worked shoulder to shoulder in numerous ventures with our Guru Shri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamiji, the disciple of Shri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamiji, in various Sabhas in entire Bharat in the cause of Dharma, in the Virata Hindu Sammelanam held in Nepal and specially in the steps leading to construction of Shri Rama Mandir in Ayodhya. Having worked ceaselessly for Dharma for many decades, Swamiji, even in advanced age, has been engaged daily in listening to Vedanta and Darshan of his Ishtadevata Bhagavati and has elicited admiration. Swamiji has been interested in having Darshan, specially of Bhagavati Kamakshi and Bhagavan Venkateswara in Southern Bharat. Also during our meeting in the last Plava year on Wednesday, Kartika Krishna Dvadashi, Swamiji was extremely kind and showed his affable attitude. It touches our heart that being extremely inward looking in his last days approaching a hundred years of age, Swamiji crossed the period of Chaturmasya suitable for Yatis and dropped his body on the day next to the Visvarupayatra day, on Bhadrapada Krishna Prathama day. We believe that by the grace of Bhagavan Chandramouliswara and Mahatripurasundari, Swamiji’s followers, encouraged by Swamiji’s memory, would advance in the path shown by Bhagavatpada as did Swamiji, along with all others with the same attitude of kindness and always put in efforts, in the cause of Dharma like Swamiji.
