Pujya Sankaracharya Swamiji visited the sacred Sri Sundareswara Swami Sannidhi at the historic Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple on 30 September 2026. The arrival of His Holiness was marked by the traditional temple rituals of Poornakumbham, while the deep and resonant notes of the Nadaswaram filled the temple precincts.
Pujya Swamiji was then led to the Mandapam, where the sacred Kalashas prepared for the Ekadasha Rudra Kalasabhishekam of Lord Sundareswara had been ceremonially arranged. Pujya Swamigal witnessed the chanting of the Sri Rudram and the offering of Deeparadhana.
Thereafter, Pujya Swamiji passed through the celebrated Thousand-Pillared Mandapam, pausing amidst its magnificent expanse of pillars and intricate sculptural artistry. The Mandapam, with its extraordinary craftsmanship and enduring grandeur, stands as a living expression of the architectural and spiritual heritage of the ancient temple.
His Holiness then had Darshan of Mukkuruni Vinayakar, before proceeding towards the innermost precincts of the temple and the Sannidhi of Sri Sundareswara Swami.
Within the sacred Sanctum, Pujya Swamiji witnessed the Mahabhishekam of Lord Sundareswara, accompanied by powerful chanting of the Sri Rudram. The sacred waters from the Ekadasha Rudra Kalashas were offered to the Lord as part of the Ekadasha Rudra Kalasabhishekam.
Pujya Swamiji presented a Shweta Pattu Vastram to Lord Sundareswara, which was subsequently used to adorn the divine form of the Lord.
The worship continued with the Sri Rudra Trishati Archana, during which the sacred names and manifestations of Rudra were invoked.
This was followed by Deeparadhana and the Sanctum during the Deeparadhana became suffused with the gentle radiance of the Deepas , lamps and Harati against the profound darkness of the ancient Sanctum, the flames of the sacred lamps emerged as points of brilliant light, revealing the divine form of Sri Sundareswara in their flickering glow. For a moment, the darkness itself seemed to become a backdrop for the radiance of the Lord — an evocative reminder of the eternal principle of light dispelling darkness and knowledge dispelling ignorance. His Holiness offered prayers to Sri Sundareswara Swami for the welfare, peace, prosperity, and spiritual well-being of all.
Upon the completion of the sacred worship, Pujya Swamiji was presented with the traditional Temple Honours by the temple authorities.
